Sensi Bikinis: This is not your average bathing suit

Once in a while, a new product comes up and it would be silly not to talk about it.

Guys, I know this article is about bikinis, so enjoy pictures and learn, this could be a perfect give for your girl! It's like a mid-week Miss

Stance Album!

Ladies, be prepared: this is not your average bikini! If you want to look good, and have a bikini that works with you, take a look at this!

The designer, the brain behind this whole thing is Sensi Graves. She is an all-around waterwoman and she sure shreds on the water. (Haven't seen her performances yet? Check out her latest video at the WONW!)

Here's the Stance Interview with Sensi Graves!

Can you talk to us a bit about your new brand?

SENSI is designed to empower women by providing reliable, cute and comfortable swimwear for a vigorous and energetic lifestyle. The goal of the brand is to capture the essence of women who are living their lives through watersports and hopefully inspire women to change their lives to include watersports. Also, we value the planet and encourage the use of sustainable resources and respect for one’s environment. Save the ocean!

What is your background? How did you come up with the idea?

I’ve always loved bikinis. They’re one of my favorite things to shop for because you can have such fun with them. Also, I’ve been involved in sports and around the water for as long as I can remember.  I grew up wakeboarding and started surfing and kiting in college. When I moved to North Carolina and started coaching kiteboarding, I was in the water all the time. I quickly grew frustrated with my bikinis. It was hard to be active and have to constantly adjust my swimwear. I wanted something that stayed put and still had that flirty, cheery quality that makes bikinis so much fun. I found other girls in watersports felt the same way and decided to do something about it.

There are already a lot of bikinis out there, what made you want to start your own brand?

I wanted to start SENSI when I found a niche in the market. When I couldn’t find what I was looking for and I knew that other women felt the same way, I knew I had to take advantage of it.

What is the biggest difference between Sensi and the big brands?

There are a number of differences between SENSI and the big brands. First and foremost is the idea we’re spreading that women can ride hard and perform at a high level and look good while doing it. SENSI suits are designed for optimal support, style and function. Additionally, we’re made in the USA. I think it’s really important to support our economy at home. Plus, we really care about our customer!

Where are your suits made?

Portland, Oregon. Good ol US of A.

All your suits have girl first names. Who are these girls?

These girls are my good friends as well as girls that have inspired me in some way or another. I designed each suit with a girl in mind and their personality shows through in the design. I didn’t make enough suits for all my girlfriends though!

You were the one coming up with the idea of the Sunset Swim fashion show, during the 2011 Triple S, and the one making it happen. How did that come to you?

After 2010’s Athletes 4 Cancer in Hood River, Oregon I really wanted to do something more for the cause. I saw what one strong woman (Tonia Farman) could do and I wanted to emulate that. I was also in the midst of developing my line and brainstorming ways to promote it. The two kind of came together and the Sunset Swim was born. However, I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of the group of amazing ladies that were there during development and production.

We had a sneak peek of your suits at Triple S last year. Are we going to see new models this year?

We will be seeing new models at the 2012 Triple S Invitational. The event is scheduled for June 7th! I’m already designing the 2013 summer collection, which will have its debut at the Triple S. I’m excited for this year to be bigger and better than the last.

How is 2012 looking for you as of now? How do you foresee it?

Busy. I have a lot on my plate and am constantly learning. It’s been exciting to see this all come together but I have a long way to go. Throughout the year I’ll be promoting SENSI, selling suits, getting into new retailers and spreading bikini love!

Where can we find Sensi Bikinis?

Exclusive pre-orders are happening now at www.sensibikinis.com. Also, as the summer approaches you’ll be able to find Sensi in a few shops (for now) in Canada and Seattle. Thanks for the support!

Thank you Sensi Graves for taking the time to talk to us, and keep your shred on!
